Symposium on community-based senior care service innovation was successfully held at Yulong International hotel-Beijing on March 5th, 2012. The symposium was organized by BJAST and one of its subordinate unit: Beijing Research Center of Urban System Engineering. The director of Beijing Research Center of Urban System Engineering hosted the meeting and introduced the background and theme of the symposium, while the deputy director of Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau attended the meeting and made a speech. Moreover, officials from Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commissions, BJAST, China livelihood forum, China Charity Federation, China Aging Development Center, National Information Security Center, and some of Beijing Community Service Centers, researchers of Institute of industrial engineering, Fraunhofer Institute of Germany, scholars in certain universities and some business representatives also attended the conference.
Walter In the symposium, Dr. Jianbing Liu made a speech on the current situation, problems and prospects of community-based senior care service in Beijing, followed by Professor Walter Ganz, who is from Institute of industrial engineering, Fraunhofer Institute of Germany, summarizing the present condition of senior care service in Germany and the contribution of science and technology in facilitating senior care service innovation. Manager Chen, who is from Taiwan Landseed International Medical Group, also presented the recent advances in Taiwan community-based senior care service.
After the keynote speech, conventioneers launched a warm discussion. The Deputy Chief Engineer of BJAST, Li Wang, and the director of Haidian Community Service Center, Aijun Zhou commented separately on future aging industry of China, elderly service innovation model and service demand of the elderly in their daily life. In addition, frontline workers who provide service for the elderly, service providers and entrepreneurs shared the challenges they faced during the service delivery process. Finally, the conventioneers reached such agreement: In order to carry out the community-based senior care service effectively, several conditions need to be met. First, it needs the guidance and support of policies from central and local government, with the community, the basic unit of urban, being the basis of service providing. Second, it needs the support of high-tech technology, such as Internet technology and the Internet of things. Furthermore, it needs the combination and interaction among universities, research institutes and service providers, which are the main actors to conduct R&D and innovation, so as to form an industry alliance of the government, industry, academia and research, which could interact and collaborate closely. Finally, with all the conditions settled, innovation in R&D and practice of senior care service could be effectively implemented and benefit people’s livelihood.
